Pink-Themed Fashion-Forward Showcase for a Cause

September 30, 2015
A global health campaign observed every October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is now in its third decade. Supported by The Peninsula Hotels annually since 2010, the pink-ribbon cause counts among its most successful community initiatives, with each Peninsula location hosting a month-long programme of charitable room and spa promotions, events and gastronomic surprises. Last year, the Peninsula in Pink drive raised more than HK$ 1.7 million for breast cancer organizations worldwide, supporting their efforts to disseminate information on the disease and to provide greater access to services for early detection and treatment. In Tokyo alone, more than JPY 4.2 million was donated to Keep A Breast Japan® and the Japan Breast Cancer Screening Society® in 2014, and we are grateful for our guests’ enthusiastic support of this worthy cause.

In 2015, The Peninsula’s brand-wide campaign to foster breast cancer awareness has undergone an artistic makeover. Retitled The Art of Pink, it will showcase pink-themed artworks and designs throughout the hotels, in partnership with acclaimed artists and galleries. At The Peninsula Tokyo, a fashion-forward and fun-loving girlish spirit will be celebrated with a new collection of iconic pink wirebags by Anteprima Creative Director Izumi Ogino. An instant hit when they were first released in 1998, Anteprima wirebags have since become a sought-after symbol of the confidence, strength and playfulness that characterize young women today.

In addition to displaying one each of her original Hello Kitty® and My Melody® wirebags, Izumi is creating four exclusive all-in-pink bags shaped after a panda, dog, pig and monkey. The six-piece collection will be auctioned at an invitation-only charity gala dinner on October 19, 2015.
Chef de Cuisine Laurent Poitevin of Le Lobby at The Peninsula Paris will join The Peninsula Tokyo to prepare a five-course dinner accompanied by a stellar lineup of French wines and Champagne sponsored by importers Enoteca Co., Ltd. and Vinorum Co., Ltd. With the generous support of luxury fashion magazines 25ans and Richesse, The Peninsula Tokyo plans to raise more than JPY 1.2 million from this event alone to donate to Keep A Breast Japan®.

Throughout the month of October six enlarged photographs of Peninsula pagegirls modelling the Anteprima wirebag designs will be hung in The Lobby, where guests may also enjoy The Art of Pink Afternoon Tea, a special edition of the legendary Peninsula repast. Rose-tinted sweets and savouries are presented on the classic tiered silver platter and served with rosé sparkling wine. Other The Art of Pink offerings in Tokyo this October at Peter, Peter: The Bar, The Peninsula Boutique & Café and The Peninsula Spa invite guests to enjoy still more timeless glamour while supporting the fight against breast cancer.
