Welcoming the Auspicious Year of the Rooster

January 12, 2017
Chinese New Year Celebrations

In keeping with the vibrant Chinese hospitality heritage of The Peninsula Hotels, The Peninsula Tokyo welcomes the Lunar Year of the Rooster with home-style experiences to bring joy and prosperity to the whole family. To celebrate the auspicious occasion, the hotel invites guests to participate in a series of colourful events and promotions filled with Spring Festival colours, customs, and flavours. This year, the Lunar New Year’s Eve falls on 27 January.

Our travelling Chinese guests and their families can savour the flavours of home, while other guests can experience the most important festival on the Chinese calendar showcased in Peninsula style.  Reunion feasting with family, friends and loved ones is made more memorable with the Festive Lunar New Year menus created by Executive Chinese Chef Dicky To at Hei Fung Terrace, the hotel’s signature Chinese restaurant, from 27 to 29 January.

In addition, guests can look forward to witnessing traditional lion and dragon dances and live musical performances featuring a Chinese Zither player during their auspicious meals. The lion and dragon, two beloved mythical creatures symbolising power, nobility, and good fortune, will also make an additional special appearance at The Lobby at 10am on 28 January, dancing to the crashing sounds of a drum, cymbals and gong and visiting different areas of the hotel, a treasured part of the Chinese New Year tradition.

To make the most of their celebration, guests can book a stylish family reunion at The Peninsula Tokyo with the “Year of the Rooster Sweet Upgrade” offer with a complimentary upgrade to a Suite and Chinese breakfast. At turndown service on 27 January, all guests will receive a lucky red packet with a chocolate gold coin placed in their room, in keeping with the traditional custom of wishing for a prosperous new year. The celebrated, lucky ride Chinese New Year tradition is given a classic Peninsula twist with suite guests entitled to a chauffeured three-hour drive by one of the hotel’s MINI Coopers to visit auspicious, Year of the Rooster locations and attractions in Tokyo.
