Cherry Blossom Season Is Here!
The highly anticipated Cherry Blossom Celebration at The Peninsula Tokyo marks its fourth year in 2016. In a modern take on the time-old tradition of gathering under the blossoming trees to drink and feast, the hotel lobby is transformed into a prime indoor ohanami destination, with three-metre-high trees in full bloom and festive cherry blossom-flower arrangements on the tables from March 5 to 12. As the trees arrive ahead of the blossom front outdoors, guests can get a head start on the season’s merrymaking as they enjoy the flowers in the warmth and gaiety of this iconic Peninsula lobby space. With live music streaming from the balcony above, and seasonal delights like white strawberry mousse, strawberry tarts and fragrant scones baked with cherry liqueur-infused cherries gracing The Peninsula Classic Cherry Blossom Afternoon Tea, it’s an opportunity to experience two cherished traditions – British and Japanese – like never before.
Throughout March and April, the Japanese spring time symbol is featured in our special offerings within the hotel. Mixologists at Peter: The Bar shake and stir a trio of original Cherry Blossom Cocktails infused with the delicate fragrance of the flower, while Cherry Blossom Delight lunch and dinner menus at Peter present a western-style meal in an elegant pink lacquered box and a four-course feast inspired by the sakura flower. Cherry-blossom milk tea and sodas are served up at Naka Dori Café on the street. The Ohanami Picnic Set at The Peninsula Boutique & Café puts together everything needed for a fun outing for two at your favorite park, including sumptuous cold cuts, sandwiches, desserts and a half bottle of rosé sparkling wine. Our Concierge recommendations for the best ohanami sites near the hotel are Hibiya Park, Chidorigabuchi and the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, all a brief walk or short drive away.
In-house guests can also take advantage of the hotel’s three-wheeled, power-assisted PenCycles for a fun, free, and faster way to enjoy the sights of the city at this most festive and magical time of the cherry blossoms.
